Top 10 Most Expensive Pieces of Cardboard in Cardfight! Vanguard

One of the most perplexing things about TCGs, in general, is its ability to trick people into spending money to buy cards. Although, I guess we can say the same thing about art collectors as well.

Anyway, this list will feature the Top 10 list of most expensive cards in Cardfight! Vanguard including special and exclusively foiled cards from both the Premium and Standard Formats. The criteria will be based on the average market price of the following cards.

Additionally, we will be following the CURRENT market prices instead of the individual peak prices of some cards. A lot of these cards have already dwindled especially if they are one of the more forgettable ones like BWC Claret Sword Dragon.

10. Peaceful Voice, Raindear (Wedding SP) – $289.00

[Peaceful Voice, Raindear (Wedding SP)] Taken from TCGPlayer

Ah, of course. We can’t have a Top 10 list of most expensive CFV cards without having at least 10 Bermuda Triangle cards in the list.

Peaceful Voice, Raindear is only 1 of 13 wedding SPs that appear in the G-Clan Booster Set 03: Blessing of Divas. Only 2 Wedding SPs appear on this set for every carton which makes the ratio of pulling one extremely low.

She is also a long-time fan-favorite among Bermuda players and is one of the more popular names in its time. Now, while you may think that this list will be filled with other Wedding SP Bermuda cards, you’d be surprised that she’s actually the most expensive of them all. So yeah, keep scrolling.

9. Colorful Pastorale, Fina (Rainbow SSP) – $320.00

[Colorful Pastorale, Fina (Rainbow SSP)] Taken from TCGPlayer

While we’re hoping that the characters on this list don’t get any younger, we have deduced that the formula to make a mermaid card more expensive is to give them legs.

Not only that though, the reason why Colorful Pastorale cards are so expensive is the fact that they’re signed by their voice actresses. In this case, Fina is signed by Risa Tsumugi who hasn’t really played any major roles in any other anime. So…. moving on.

8. Colorful Pastorale, Caro (Rainbow SSP) – $339.00

[Colorful Pastorale, Caro (Rainbow SSP)] Taken from TCGPlayer

Unlike the previous SSP card, this underage fish is actually a staple for use in the current meta. Usefulness, rarity, and aesthetic are the best justification for market price there is.

While we don’t know if Caro is younger than Fina, we are certain that the voice actress who plays her is definitely of that description. Shindou Amane is only 15 years old and is considered to be a rising star among the VA community. Despite the fact that she’s only played one role so far, you can expect this signature to be worth its price in the near future.

7. Phantom Blaster Dragon (Secret Campaign Limited) – $384.99

[Phantom Blaster Dragon (Secret Campaign Limited)] Taken from TCGPlayer

Finally! Our first non-Bermuda Triangle card on the list. Phantom Blaster Dragon is probably one of the more recognizable cards out there with a reputation for being the absolute avatar of edginess.

This particular rarity is unique in its own right since there are only 300 copies in existence with a specific serial number marked on each card. As far as rarity goes, nothing can be rarer than the fabled Serial No. 1 PBD.

6. Legendary Idol, Riviere (SP) – $475.00

[Legendary Idol, Riviere (SP)] Taken from TCGPlayer

Welp, it was fun while it lasted. Another mermaid with legs re-enter our Top 10 list. However, what makes this unique than the previous cards is that this card is only in its SP form.

Legendary Idol, Riviere is definitely a key-card in the premium format. Especially so with the new support it has received in the recent booster. Even its RRR version is as expensive as other SPs from this clan.

5. Progenitor Dragon of Lightning Flame, Gilgal (Bushiroad Finals 2019 PR) – $500.00

[Progenitor Dragon of Lightning Flame, Gilgal (Bushiroad 2019 Finals PR)] Taken from TCGPlayer

You have probably never heard of this card before. Don’t worry, you’re not the only one. This card is apparently only available by participating in the 2019 Bushiroad Championship Series as a random participation prize.

Participants of this event received 1 of 2 participation prizes depending on which format you participated in. And you should know that this one is cheaper than the other one. By that, I mean A LOT cheaper.

4. Colorful Pastorale, Sonata (Rainbow SSP) – $979.00

[Colorful Pastorale, Sonata (Rainbow SSP)] Taken from TCGPlayer

By Harmonics Messiah! That price jump almost gave me my final turn. The fishes have struck again on our top 10 list but it looks like this one is the last fish out of water.

Colorful Pastorale, Sonata is definitely the most coveted card in the Corlorful Pastorale set as she takes on the role as the face of melody. Aside from being the key component of melody in general, she definitely wins as the most vibrant card design among the Rainbow SSPs.

3. Progenitor Dragon of Deep Sea, Balanerena (Bushiroad Finals 2019 PR) – $1,000.00

[Progenitor Dragon of Deep Sea, Balanerena (Bushiroad Finals 2019 PR)] Taken from TCGPlayer

Yes, this was what I was talking about. This progenitor dragon with a difficult name to say is almost twice the price of its counterpart, Gilgal. Being only able to get the chance in getting this out of 2 cards through attending the 2019 Bushiroad Finals definitely justifies its name.

Additionally, being one of the more useful Progenitor Dragons out there, you can expect that this card is in almost every deck whose player can afford it.

2. Monarch Sanctuary Alfred (Bushiroad Finals 2018 PR) – $1,200.00

[Monarch Sanctuary Alfred (Bushiroad Finals 2018 PR)] Taken from TCGPlayer

Another Bushiroad Finals PR received only through participation, this card is definitely a relic to be remembered by cardfighters for decades to come (assuming the game lasts that long).

Monarch Sanctuary Alfred is definitely a trophy for champions being one of the most iconic characters out there. Even though this card boasts a $1200 price list, it is still relatively cheap and yet again loses to the undoubtable most iconic character in CFV ever.

1. Dragonic Overlord “The Victory” (Vanguard Masters Cup Prize) – $90,780.00

[Dragonic Overlord “The Victory” (Vanguard Masters Cup Prize)] Taken from TCGJapan

Truly, a magnificent sight to behold. This card is one of a kind and is only achieved by winning the Vanguard Masters Cup in Japan. To join the Masters Cup you must play a 64 and 256-fighter’s tournament among the best cardfighters in the country to receive the honorary title of “Master of Vanguard”.

A fitting title for the best of the best and an even more fitting prize thereof. This card is so expensive that you can literally trade it for 324,214 copies of Dragonic Overlord. I wouldn’t recommend doing that though.

And that’s it for that exhausting list that made my pockets feel emptier as it is. Hopefully, we get to see more expensive pieces of cardboard in other card games here at The Card Game Collective.
